The Reverend Maureen Quinlan Thitchener

The Reverend Maureen Quinlan Thitchener was ordained as a Unitarian Universalist Minister in 1988. In 1991 she was called as co-minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst in Amherst, N.Y. where she was named Minister Emerita in January, 2003. She now serves as Co-Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandaigua, NY.

She has served on the Board of Governors of the Western NY Interfaith Network of Religious Communities, and has been the Treasurer of the Campus Minister's Association at the State University of N.Y. at Buffalo, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Erie County Mental Health Association, and a founder of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandaigua.

From 1988 to 1991 she was the minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Olinda in Ruthven, Ontario, Canada. During that time she was also the President of the Windsor Memorial Society as well as serving on the board of rustees of the South Essex Community Council. She has also served as co-minister of the Waterloo County Unitarian Fellowship in Waterloo, Ontario, nd as Interim Co-Minister of the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, NY.

Maureen was awarded a B.S. by Empire State College, SUNY in 1977 and a Master of Divinity Degree by Colgate Rochester Divinity School in 1988. She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, joined the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, N.Y. in 1958 where she was an active lay-person for over twenty years. During that time she was a church school teacher, chairperson of the Ministerial Relations Committee and Adult Programs Committee and served as moderator of the congregation. She was also regional coordinator of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. She also served two years on the denomination's ministerial credentialing committee (MFC).

Prior to entering the ministry, Maureen had a career in the Microfilm and Information Retrieval industry including serving as Executive-Vice President of SBS Industries, Inc. and Knowledge Systems, Inc. She has been married to Carl Thitchener since 1954. They have three daughters, Karyn, Lynn and Susan, one son, Michael and two granddaughters, Tegan and Kelley.
