Religious Education

Our religious education program, which is age related, fosters an understanding and acceptance of diverse beliefs and lifestyles, exposes children to other religions and encourages respect for others while developing responsibility for their own lives.

During the service there is childcare for infants and toddlers, and religious education classes (Sunday School). Children of all ages are also welcome to remain in the service.

For more information on our classes for the various age groups (pre-K + K, 1-3, 4-6, 7-8 grades), please contact the Director of Religious Education, Scarlett Miles.

Our Philosphy

Children and teenagers are developing their entire worldview based on the values that they observe in their environment. A religious education class at UUCC does not indoctrinate children with a creed, nor does it demand that they leave their intellect and curiosity behind when they come in the door. Some of the subjects we study in the spectrum of curricula include:

  • religious beliefs and practices from around the world
  • Unitarian and Universalist beliefs and history
  • fairness/social justice
  • peace and compassionate engagement
  • religious freedom as a founding liberty
  • human relationships and lifelong sexuality
  • environment responsibility and personal activism
